Picture it
6pm. February. A storm warning on the news. Then: nothing.
The lights die. The boiler stops. Hour by hour, the house gets colder. Your phone hits 9% and the signal is gone: no news, no messages, no idea how long this will last.
Then your youngest asks, "Is it going to be OK?" And you're feeling your way along the wall, looking for a torch you're not even sure you own.
This is the moment we built The 72 Hour Kit for. Thirty seconds, one bag: light in every room, a voice on the radio, a charged phone, warm hands. And a family that isn't afraid.
You're not a prepper. You just don't want to be caught out.
Before we chose a single item, we read what British households say about the night the power goes: parents on the family forums, drivers on the motoring boards, and the reviews of kits people bought in a hurry. The same four worries come up every time.
"Where's the torch?"
Most stories start the same way. The lights go, the only torch is in a drawer with flat batteries, and the phone is at 9%. Our answer: hands-free head torches, a room light and flameless tea lights, all in one bag you keep in one place.
"It wouldn't charge when I needed it."
The most common complaint about wind-up radios: it sat untouched for months, then was dead the week it mattered. Our answer: a radio that charges three ways, by crank, solar and USB, and a plain rule on every kit page: test it twice a year, when the clocks change.
"Is it going to be OK?"
Parents of small children say the fear isn't the dark. It's being asked that question with nothing in your hands. Our answer: light in every room, a voice on the radio and a charged phone, so the honest answer is "yes".
"Am I overreacting?"
People describe hiding their supplies from family who call it over the top, and one in five of us would rather not think about it at all. Our answer: the Government now asks every household to be able to manage for three days. Being ready isn't overreacting. It's the official advice.
Drawn from public forum threads and published reviews of emergency kits sold in the UK, not from our own customers. The 72 Hour Kit is an independent shop, not part of, or endorsed by, the UK Government. The official advice is at beready.campaign.gov.uk.

Why we exist
No family should spend a power cut afraid of the dark.
Every winter, storms cut the power to British homes, sometimes for days. The Government now tells every household to be ready for three days on its own. Most aren't. Not because they don't care, but because nobody made it easy.
So we did. We took the official 3-day checklist, threw out everything that doesn't matter when the lights are out, and packed what does into one bag you can grab in the dark. Light. Warmth. Power. News. For your home, your door and your car.
This isn't about fear. It's about the opposite: the calm of a parent who already knows what to do. That calm is what we sell.
We didn't start this because we expect a disaster. When the Government asked every household to be ready for three days, we couldn't find a kit we'd want in our own hallway cupboard: one without fear, and without filler. So we built it.
